SAINT CLAIRE -- A group of people in Schuylkill County has one thing in mind. That's helping the victims of Hurricane Sandy which ripped up New Jersey.

A fire truck was parked in front of the Walmart in Saint Clair, not to fight flames but to draw attention to a good cause.

The Middleport Fire Company will be there all weekend collecting money and other items. Todd Amos is president of the fire company and explained what they're collecting.

"Used clothing, towels, washcloths, cleaning supplies are a big necessity down there, toys for the kids because there is a ton of kids down there who lost everything," said Amos.

Firefighter Darren Amos said the donations will go to Toms River, New Jersey, which was ravaged by hurricane Sandy.

"I know that's the main area that got hit the hardest in that area, so I am glad to help out and go down and distribute what we get in that area," said Darren Amos.

Most of the people we talked to were donating cash, including Robert Frantz.

"I work for another charitable organization myself, with Goodwill and everything, and as other people help us, why not help them," said Frantz.

Robert Reigel said he also donated cash.

"I think they do a fantastic job, and I believe in what they do," said Reigel.

Walmart officials were happy to allow the collection effort in front of the store. Manager Scott Garcia said in part because of what Sandy did in our area.

"I know this community has gone through a lot over the past couple of weeks, and we're happy to support in New Jersey and so forth," said Garcia.

Members of the Middleport Fire Company will be at the Walmart in Saint Clair through the weekend from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to accept donations.
