SCRANTON -- Kathleen Kane, Pennsylvania's first elected Democratic attorney general, and the first woman in the state elected to the position, was greeted by an excited crowd at the Radisson Lackawanna Station hotel in Scranton.

A prosecutor in Lackawanna County for twelve years, she ran her campaign on the promise to be a prosecutor, not a politician.

"To all of my nieces standing here and all of you out here, I will tell you that we have expanded the boundaries for women in Pennsylvania," said Kane.

She said one of her first tasks in office will be to investigate the handling of the Jerry Sandusky sex scandal.

"As a child abuse prosecutor, I wanted to look back and investigate who did what, when, and why," said Kane.

In her victory speech, Kane said she was the right person for the job at the right time. She also gave a shout out to her west Scranton roots, which she says helped her along the way.
