SELINSGROVE -- A church group in Snyder County is hoping to make the holidays brighter for children by collecting and selling new and used toys just in time for Christmas.

Landon Rawlings, 4, of Freeburg loves playing with toys. He said he has a lot of them, too! Landon and his mother decided to donate some of his toys to Christ United Methodist Church in Selinsgrove for its annual toy sale, which is December 1.

"We are collecting toys from people in the community, new and gently used toys, books, games," said Amanda Friend.

For the third straight year, Christ United Methodist Church is collecting toys. The church will sell them to families who are struggling to make ends meet. The toys will be priced between 25 cents and $3.

"We're giving families an opportunity to purchase toys rather than receiving another handout. They can come here and get toys for pretty cheap and still supply something for their children," said Friend.

Proceeds from the toy sale will go to Snyder County Children and Youth Services. Last year's sale raised more than $600!

"It really reaches out and helps people especially in this difficult community. It lets them know the love we have for people in this community," said Pastor Ryan Gephart.

Organizers hope people will drop off new and used toys to the church this weekend just like Landon did.

"Because they need to. Because they need them? Yes," said Landon.

The toy drop-off will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in Selinsgrove from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. For more information you can click here.
