MOUNT CARMEL -- Several crews were call out to a fire in Northumberland County.
It broke out around 8 a.m. Wednesday at the corner of East Second Street and North Chestnut Street in Mount Carmel.
Authorities think it started in the basement of a double block home and spread to four other buildings.Three have heavy fire damage. The other has smoke damage.
At least three families are without a place to stay.
One family thinks the fire started in or around a coal burner in the basement, but the exact cause is under investigation.
Crews in Mount Carmel are also looking into a possible flow issue with the fire hydrants.
