TAMAQUA -- In Schuylkill County, voters of the 29th State Senate district had a decision to make between longtime politician Republican David Argall, and Democrat Tim Seip.
Seip, a Pottsville native, has served in the state House of representatives from 2007 to 2010 and says his main focus if elected would be creating more jobs and focusing on property tax reform.
Argall is running for his first full term after winning a special election in 2009, replacing the late state Senator James Rhoades.
The incumbent also is focusing on property tax reform, but his opponent says he believes voters are looking for a different approach.
"I think that there's some real crankiness about property taxes and no movement on it, and 27 years of talk of something being done about property taxes. Again, I'm a man of action. I've moved two bills out of the General Assembly in my very first term, and certainly feel that I could do a better job than Senator Argall or I wouldn't be in the race," said Seip.
Argall won the district that represents Schuylkill, and parts of Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe and Northampton counties by more than a 10% margin.
"The most important part of the job tomorrow is the same as it was yesterday: trying to improve the economy of the district, trying to work with the private sector to bring more jobs here, and trying to find a better way to fund our public schools than an out-voted, 150-year-old property tax system," said Argall.
Argall said he looks forward to serving his district starting first thing Wednesday morning.
