MINERSVILLE -- A 15-year-old has died from injuries he received in a crash last month in Schuylkill County.

The Minersville Area 9th grader died Friday after being in the hospital since the crash.

15-year-old Kyle Bender was known as a teen who always had a smile on his face. He died Friday in a hospital.

It all began almost three weeks ago on a stretch of Route 125 in the village of Donaldson in Schuylkill County. That same day, Kyle attended his grandfather's funeral.

Neighbor Deb Cook said she knows the victim's mother.

"My heart goes out to her and Kyle did put up a good fight and it's a shame that he was taken," said Cook.

According to the state police, a car driven by Wayne Kimmel for some reason crossed the center line and crashed into an SUV head on.  Kyle Bender was a passenger in that SUV.

Neighbor Tony Mikos said he's sad.

"He had everything in front of him and I think that`s the toughest thing, especially for us that have children that age," said Mikos.

Mikos said the crash has shaken some people in the quiet community, especially Kyle's friends.

"They were quite upset about the accident and the circumstances surrounding it one of the young men when he heard Kyle had passed who knew Kyle was pretty upset and has affected quite a few people in the community," said Mikos.

State police report Kyle and the others involved in the crash were not wearing seat belts.

"My prayers are with the family and i hope people in the community and other communities can realize that these things don't have to happen." Tony Mikos explained.

State Police said they expect to cite the driver who caused the deadly crash.
