FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP — A fire in Mountain Top sent a husband and wife to a hospital with serious burns.
It happened at a home Tuesday morning, and investigators are looking into what may have led to the fire.
Authorities said Chris and Tracey Zero were badly burned in a fire at their home in Fairview Township.
They’re in critical condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital while investigators work to find out how the fire started.
Emergency crews from all over Mountain Top rushed to the home on Pine Lane in the township when a fire sparked just before 8 a.m.
Authorities said the husband and wife were inside with their two dogs when the fire started.
Their two teenage children were not home.
Neighbor Fred Heller was voting at the Mountain Top Hose Company when he heard what happened.
“They had told me what had happened and I go ‘wow, that’s unbelievable,’” said Heller.
The couple was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital with burns where they’re both listed in critical condition.
Police spent the day investigating the cause of the fire.
They call it suspicious but won’t say why.
Dogs with the state police were brought in to help with the investigation.
“Some samples have been taken and that stuff will go to the Pennsylvania state police crime lab and we’ll know for sure what’s there,” said Chief Joe Intelicato of Fairview Township Police.
Neighbors watched the couple’s dogs after they were taken to the hospital.
Fred Heller said he didn’t know the victims too well, but he’s worried about their children.
“I feel so terrible for the family. It just kind of, it’s very disturbing when it hits close to home. My prayers go out to the family. It’s just tragic,” said Heller.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
