As the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy continues to impact the area, police throughout Monroe County want to warn residents of scam artists looking to make a quick buck off people hoping to get help.

Several chiefs of police and the district attorney's office want to remind residents to keep a look out for scam artists.

A red flag, if someone comes to your home offering to help with things like turning on your electricity or collecting for a charity.

Ask for their information, research the agency, and do not pay up front!

If something doesn't check out, contact your local authorities.

The Pocono Mountain Regional Police has already started getting calls about suspicious people wanting to help.

“Unfortunately there is a history of contractor fraud in Monroe County, and that's why we know we'll be a target after the fact, that people are going to take advantage of people who are already in a bad state now after the hurricane,” said Chief Harry Lewis of Pocono Mountain Regional Police.
