Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that the New York City Marathon is cancelled.

The decision comes after the mayor faced an outcry from citizens of the city after he said the marathon would go on.

People said this is no time for a race, as many New Yorkers are trying to clean up all the wreckage from Hurricane Sandy and establish some order back in their lives.

Newswatch 16’s Ryan Leckey was supposed to head to New York to run in the marathon as part of his Ryan’s Run Three campaign which raises money for children and adults with disabilities at Allied Services.

There is no word whether or not the marathon will be rescheduled.
