Crews Working to Restore Power

POLK TOWNSHIP -- Truck after truck -- from PPL, to a power company out of Kentucky, to a tree trimming service from Indiana -- were all in a caravan heading to another hard hit area in Monroe County Thursday.

"I'm glad," said Dominic Strohlein of Kresgeville. "This is the first day we've seen any trucks in the area."

"I really believe they're working as hard as they can and they have a large problem," said Arthur Margelot  of Kresgeville.

As the trucks made their way down a road in Polk Township and workers blocked off the road with caution tape and a sign that read "road closed," Margelot  couldn't help but pull over and watch, hoping the work being done was going to get his electricity on soon.

"Just checking on the conditions, trying to get an update on when it will come back on."

Polk Township officials said Whitey B Drive near Kresgeville is one of the hardest hit areas of the township. Crews behind caution tape worked to cut down trees and get power lines off the road. PPL officials said crews were on scene since before noon -- crews from Allentown and Kentucky. They said it would to take about ten hours to get all of that cleared up. But there's no exact word on when power is going to get restored to that area.

It's been since Monday night that this community has had no power.

Dominic Strohlein said that alone is frustrating and one reason he stopped by, not only to check out the work but hopefully get some information from the workers on site.

"These guys work hard. I'm GOING to go over there and watch, I hope they don't mind people pestering them.  It is what it is, and we'll deal with it."

PPL officials said they expect to have everyone's power restored by 11 p.m. on Sunday.

There are warming shelters at Pocono Mountain West in Pocono Summit, East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, and Pleasant Valley Middle School in Brodheadsville.
