STROUDSBURG -- Sandy inflicted a lot of damage in Monroe County overnight
The center of Hurricane Sandy passed south of the area but Monroe County is still close enough to get whacked pretty hard.
The problems here: the same winds as in the rest of northeastern and central Pennsylvania. High winds brought down trees and power lines with gusts just below hurricane force, in the range of 50 to 60 miles per hour.
As you can imagine, the damage is widespread, from one end of the county to the other. No one has been spared.
Thousands of homes and businesses are without power.
Police encourage people to stay off the roads so emergency vehicles can get through to the people who really need help.
