WILKES-BARRE -- With the approach of Hurricane Sandy, heavy rain and wind are expected along with rising creeks, streams, and rivers, leading to fears of flooding.
Areas of Luzerne County saw record high river levels in September, 2011. Weather officials said they are not expecting levels to go as high as last year.
National Weather Service officials said the Susquehanna River in Wilkes-Barre is currently less than 3 feet, with expected crest of around 16 feet later in the week.
Flood stage in Wilkes-Barre is 22 feet with levee protection up to 41 feet.

On Sunday, city crews installed flood gates on the bridge over Solomon Creek at Waller Street as a precaution against small stream flooding.
City workers also spent the weekend clearing storm drains of leaves and debris.
