TOWANDA TOWNSHIP -- The man killed in a crash in Bradford County Tuesday was the president of the Towanda Area School Board.

Pete Alesky, 67, of Monroeton was killed when he apparently lost control of his pick-up truck and hit a house and garage along South Main Street in Towanda Township, according to state police.

It happened around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman living in the home said she saw it happen.

"I thought I saw a truck going through there, but it wasn't in the house. I thought I was seeing things," said Margaret Potter, homeowner.

"She turned on the TV to watch 16 news, like she always does at noon. She must have dozed off and when she woke up to the noise, she wondered where the TV was," said Eileen Potter, Margaret's daughter.

Bill Smeck saw the crash. He said he never saw anything like it.

"He hit that sign right there, and then he flew in the air about three feet. He went right straight through the house, and then he hit the garage," said Smeck.

Steve Gobble, Towanda Area superintendent, issued the following statement:

"Towanda Area School District is saddened by the untimely passing of Pete Alesky. Pete served Towanda Area School District as a school board member since December, 2007 and represented Region 2, which consists of Asylum Township, Franklin Township, Monroe Township, Monroe Borough and Towanda Township. Pete was elected as school board president in December, 2011. On behalf of the employees and school board members of Towanda Area School District, I would like to extend our sympathies to the Alesky family."

Margaret Potter is staying with family for the time being.

An autopsy determined Pete Alesky did not die as a result of the car crash.  He died of natural causes.
