POTTSVILLE -- The high cost of heating fuel may force a business in Schuylkill County to close for the winter.

When we visited the Pottsville Second Hand Shop on North Centre Street, we found owner Donna Seltzer hanging clothing.  You can find just about everything, from electronics, to musical instruments to even a car. Donna Seltzer said all are a little used but reusable.

"Some people only have 50 cents in their pocket, some people only have a $100, so I try and have a little bit of everything in here at affordable prices," said Seltzer.

Seltzer explains she has a mission.

"I want to help the community, people though, they need a lot of help," said Seltzer.

The thrift shop is running into some financial tough times. Seltzer said she worries she'll have to temporarily close when the weather turns cold.

"It's going to get really, really cold and I don't think I will be able to stay open all winter. There is no way I can afford the heat in here, so I think I'm going to have to close shop," said Seltzer.

Seltzer's brother, Paul Karnes, said the only way the Pottsville Second Hand Shop can remain open is if more people come in and buy.

"It would have to be a very reasonable income, like I said we're a second hand shop so, we`re not getting a lot of prices for things so it would have to be a lot of sales to compensate for that amount," said Karnes.

The immediate future of the Pottsville Second Hand Shop is weather dependent. The owner says if you want to check out what she has, you've got to do it before the first snow flies.
