WILKES-BARRE -- A Wilkes-Barre man who was shot in the Parsons section of the city back in July has died.
For the past three months, the victim of the shooting, Kenyatta Hughston, was in critical condition after he was shot on Jay Street in Wilkes-Barre, but Wednesday morning, he passed away, forcing investigators to treat the shooting as a homicide.
It was on Jay Street in Wilkes-Barre back on July 6th when police say a man shot 22-year-old Kenyatta Hughston in broad daylight. It was a shooting that, even three months later, still has neighbors shaken up.
"You can't really walk the streets or go out, especially at night. You have to be afraid. You have to watch over your shoulder all the time to see what's going on," said neighbor Barbara Saxe.
After three months in critical condition in the hospital, Hughston, who has ties to Philadelphia, died. The DA's office said it happened Wednesday.
"He did hold on for so long. We were hoping that maybe he would bounce back if you want to say that, but sadly he did not," said District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis.
"We did talk about it and wonder whatever happened to the guy you know? If he was still alive and what was going on," said Saxe.
District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis is not saying if there are suspects at this time, but she said prosecutors hope to file charges soon, and neighbors like Denise Hockenbury hope they do.
"I have a young daughter so I constantly have an eye on her. You're afraid. You're afraid til he gets caught," said Hockenbury, a neighbor.
The DA is waiting for ballistic and other test results to come back as the investigation continues.
