JIM THORPE -- Age old architecture, quaint mom and pop shops, friendly smiling faces. All that keeps visitors coming back to Jim Thorpe year after year.

"I love the old buildings and old history, and all the beautiful atmosphere, it's very laid back very easy to spend the day here," said Linda Smith of Canada.

Jim Thorpe in Carbon County is gearing up for its annual Fall Foliage Festival.

It attracts thousands of people from all over each year.

Most of the hotels, like The Inn, are all booked up for most of the month.

Businesses said it's the busiest time of the year.

"We get so many visitors this month that actually our sales exceed in October what they do in December," said Tom Lux, Owner of Mauch Chunk 5 & 10.

The main attraction is the fall foliage. Folks come from all over the check out the changing colors, from reds and browns to yellows and even purples.

"It's beautiful, the colors are very nice, this is like New York state, beautiful colors, it's very nice," said Jeffrey Berg of New York.

Jim Thorpe will also host train excursions starting Friday to check out the fall colors.

Out of all the things that visitors said makes them love coming to Jim Thorpe, it's the hometown feel.

"Just everybody is so friendly, so you feel at home and yet you are not, that is attractive, it's just beautiful," said Carol Robson of Canada.

The festival starts Friday, and goes every weekend until the third weekend in October.
