CARBONDALE-- Carbondale police have one man in custody this morning after they said a robbery led to a deadly stabbing in the city Sunday night.

Police believe Cedeno, of Hazleton stabbed Dennis Doherty, of Carbondale. multiple times Sunday night. The Lackawanna County Coroner says Doherty had a total of nine stab wounds. Doherty later died at Mid Valley Hospital.

Police say a fight between the two started after the men, who were friends, spent the night drinking together.

According to court documents, Cedeno stole a white trash bag from Doherty that had beer and vodka inside.

When police got to the scene, the suspect's brother approached them and told them cedeno admitted to killing Doherty. Police found Cedeno at his mother's house on Hospital Street, just a few blocks from the fight. Police took Cedeno into custody, where he refused to give a statement.

Court documents reveal that both of Cedeno's brothers and mother said Cedeno admitted to killing doherty. The brothers also told police that Cedeno washed the blood off the knife he used to stab doherty. Police now have that knife in custody.

With Doherty's autopsy complete, Cedeno has now been charged with homicide. Cedeno is also charged with assault, robbery, and reckless endangerment.
