NORTHUMBERLAND -- It's a project that Northumberland Christian School says took 40 years, but after decades of planning and fundraising, this school in Northumberland County will finally have a gym to call their own.

Athletic Director and former Warrior basketball player Doug Wesner says the school's teams have traveled far and wide over the years to take the court.

"We got memberships to the YMCA over in Sunbury, we played games at the Y, and we kind of got to Selinsgrove State Center, played some games there," said Wesner.

But now the $255,000 dollar gym in Northumberland is almost complete thanks to donations and plenty of hard work.  The 12-foot roof was raised over the summer, the scoreboards are in, and the excitement continues to grow.

"For 40 years i think kids have been asking when are we going to do the gym, so they`re very excited about it as is staff and everyone else to finally have a gym after all of these years," said Northumberland Christian School teacher Jonathan Rees.

Parents and students from Northumberland Christian School will be here later this week to put down the hardwood floor, one of the last major steps to get this gym ready for tip-off in November.

"We might be sticking the last nail in before that.  The first game is going to be on black Friday.  The day after Thanksgiving we`re going to be playing Bloomsburg Christian School," said Wesner.

Student athletes say driving to practices and games used to be very hectic.

"It`s kind of a pain, i think it`s almost worse for our parents since they have to drive around so much," said sophomore Dorothyann Reich.

The athletes helped raise the money to make their dream gym a reality. Making this upcoming season one they'll never forget.

"I`m really excited to just step on the floor once they get all of the floor done and be able to play in here, it`s just really exciting," said Reich.
