Railfest 2012

SCRANTON — One way people enjoyed this Labor Day weekend was at Railfest 2012 in Scranton.

The event kicked off at 10:00 a.m. on South Washington Avenue. The annual event is a celebration of railroading past, present and future.

Railfest offers a lot to do including equipment displays, children`s programs, special shop demonstrations and, of course, train rides.

One woman in attendance said her and her grandsons have never ridden the Moscow Express, but they were excited to try it out.

“We’ve never been on it before. They’ve ridden a steam engine. We’ve seen movies about them, but this is our first time to touch a real steam engine. It’s gonna be great,” said Janet Blankenhorn, of State College.

Railfest 2012 ends Sunday night.
