GILBERT -- As the summer winds down, communities are celebrating by holding their annual fairs to showcase what their area is all about.
In the Poconos, the West End Fair is celebrating its 91st year.
Fair officials say the mission of the West End Fair is to highlight the farmers in Monroe County.
It's something the farmers feel is important to the community they feed.
"Your food doesn't always come just from the grocery store. It has to come from somewhere to get to the grocery store," said Jennifer Smith, who owns the RB Smith Sons Family Farm.
Smith has a full-time job and she works on her farm near Stroudsburg, where she raises beef cattle.
The fair provides some business for her and to people looking to buy beef or cattle from her farm.
Another farmer who benefits from the West End Fair is Jay Borger. His farm in Kunkletown raises all sorts of crops.
But at the fair, they're highlighting the farm's sweet corn.
For his family, the fair helps bring attention to local farms.
"It also helps at home with our corn stand at home, as far as getting the people and showcasing our corn," said Borger.
"This is an opportunity for people to see what the animals are like beforehand and what it takes to getting that steak or that roast on your plate for dinner to feed your families," said Smith.

The West End Fair wraps up this Saturday at the fairgrounds along Route 115 in Gilbert.
