BLOOMSBURG -- Nearly a year ago, the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds was flooded.
Fishing Creek could not hold all the rain last September, which led to devastating flooding.
The 2011 fair was cancelled then the cleanup started. It took months to rid the fairgrounds of the mess.
Nowadays, the fairgrounds are starting to look whole again and ready for the crowds.
"We still want everyone to come, we need the people to come to the fair this year because we missed out last year," said Bill Barratt, of the Bloomsburg Fair Association.
Less than a month from opening day. Bill Barratt and the fair folks are banking on nice weather in spite of recent history. Fair officials hope to set attendance records. With the fairgrounds' new sky ride set to take off this year.
"Cross fingers and hope we don't have bad weather again this year," said Barratt.
Last year was supposed to be the first year for the folks at woody's place in Catawissa to also have the heaps family dinner stand at the Bloomsburg Fair. Mother nature put an end to that very quickly with the friend, now this year, he's ready to try it.
"We're ready to get back into it, it will be 60 years, third generation, we missed it last year," said Woody Heaps, of Woody's Place.
Even though the cost to get into the fair has gone up slightly to $8.00 at the gate, Linda Hendricks is confident people will go.
"I think you'll find they'll be there and missed it last year, for people in Bloomsburg, the fair is very important," said Hendricks.
The Bloomsburg Fair starts with a concert September 21st and wraps up the following Saturday.
