HARRISBURG — A Commonwealth Court judge in Harrisburg decided Wednesday that the state’s voter I.D. law will remain in effect for the upcoming November election.

The law requires all voters in Pennsylvania to have a valid photo I.D. in order to cast a vote.

There were protests in Harrisburg last month as the American Civil Liberties Union challenged the law in Commonwealth Court.

The ACLU argues that the new law puts a burden on thousands of people and would prevent them from voting.

The judge said that the law provides measures such as provisional ballots to allow voters to overcome the burdens.

An appeal to the state Supreme Court is now expected.
