TUNKHANNOCK — More catalytic converters are missing from brand new pickup trucks.
This time, they were taken from a dealership in Wyoming County.
Thieves targeted Tunkhannock Auto Mart sometime overnight, swiping 10 catalytic converters from pickup trucks.
On Monday, we told you about a similar theft at a dealership in Lackawanna County.
Police aren’t sure the two are connected, but they do have the same MO.
Tunkhannock Auto Mart owner Dave Senkow said it happened sometime overnight. The total cost to the dealership could be up to $50,000.
“It’s very difficult to replace. The parts themselves are on national backorder. It may be a while before we can get them. It’s a kick because they’re not cheap, they’re not cheap,” said Senkow.
Monday we told you about a similar theft at Tony Domiano Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Eynon in Lackawanna County.
Two months ago someone stole catalytic converters at Scranton Chrysler Dodge Jeep.
Now the dealership in Tunkhannock was hit.
The thieves seem to be after Dodge Ram diesel pickup trucks, and valuable metals in their converters.
“I guess the way they sit, they’re easy to get to, to get underneath them. They sit up a little higher. You don’t have to jack them up or anything like that, and these guys know what they’re doing,” said Senkow.
“You would think if the story ran on the news Monday night, they would back off a little bit. They’re either not paying attention, or they’re just that brazen about the whole thing and think they’re good at what they do and won’t get caught. They will,” said Senkow.
Until they’re caught, police say dealers should be on alert.
“It makes it more difficult. It’s tough being in business these days and when you have something like this, it makes it a real kick,” said Senkow.
Tunkhannock Auto Mart is offering a reward of $10,000 for information on the theft.
