Ex-Prison Guard Sentenced for Smuggling Contraband
SWOYERSVILLE — A correctional officer was sentenced Tuesday on charges of smuggling contraband items to inmates.
Donald Lykon, 30, of Swoyersville, was handed 18 months in federal prison for smuggling tobacco, cell phones, and marijuana to prisoners at United States Penitentiary-Canaan in Waymart.
According to court documents, Lykon worked at the prison and accepted more than $4,000 in bribes from inmates from May, 2011 to August, 2011.
