JIM THORPE -- A man in Carbon County drowned Monday night in the Lehigh River at Lehigh Gorge State Park.

The assistant park manager confirmed the man was swimming in the river with a group of friends near the Glen Onoko access point near Route 903 in Jim Thorpe. She said she was notified around 7:30 p.m. that his friends had lost sight of him.

Dispatchers said two rescue teams searched the river for hours until finding the body late Monday night.

The coroner identified the man as Noah Krynock, 20, from Summit Hill. An autopsy will be done Wednesday at 9 a.m.

The assistant park manager said there are designated swimming areas at the state park but the location where the man drowned was not one of them.

This is the second death at the state park within two days and the third within the last year.

The park manager said there are environmental safety classes open to the public to teach outdoor safety precautions.
