MOOSIC -- We've told you a lot about the changes coming to PNC Field in Moosic.
The home of the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees is undergoing a $30 million renovation.
The Yankees are undergoing some changes too. They'll soon have a new name that fans will be able to pick.
The Yankees organization went directly to the fans a few weeks ago looking for suggestions for new names for the team. Officials said they received thousands of ideas that were narrowed down to six nicknames Friday.
There's no baseball this summer at PNC Field. So, Newswatch 16 went looking for baseball fans elsewhere on Montage Mountain armed with a list of locally grown nicknames for the "Baby Yankees".
The finalists are Blast, Black Diamond Bears, Fireflies, Porcupines, RailRiders, and Trolley Frogs.
Out of thousands of name suggestions, the Yankees organization picked the six finalists this week. One of them will be on the new team uniforms next season.
"Trolley frog, we rode the trolley so that's pretty cool," said one fan.
"RailRiders, that's actually a trait of Pennsylvania, so, RailRiders," added Jade Kempton of California.
The point was to give the team more local flavor when they bring baseball back here next spring in a newly renovated stadium, and local fans ultimately will choose the new name.
"Oh absolutely, I pick the Blast. Actually that's the worst one I would pick the Porcupines," said Anthony Pizzano of Mt. Pocono.
Many of the folks Newswatch 16 spoke to were indecisive. And, the results were across the board.
"Black diamond bears is good. Because it sounds like a baseball team," said Kayla Constantini of Scranton.
