On the weekend when Jeff Gordon was handed the Heisman Humanitarian Award it was the hand off from Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth that sent Gordon here to victory lane-his 86th career cup victory.
"I got a good restart so I really got up to fifth as we we're getting into the breaking zone going into one, and you know I don't know what happened. The 48 I just saw he got loose and when he got loose it just took everybody that was in front of us up the race track or into the wall and I made it right to the bottom and stood on the gas and drove we we're leading," said Jeff Gordon.
As a strong storm system approached Pocono Raceway at lap 91 the 48 of Jimmie Johnson held the lead, but that evaporated in turn one with the crash. Then the storms crashed everyone's plans except for the 24 now a six-time winner at Pocono.
"And you know with starting 27th only having one caution throughout that whole run to get up in the top 5 or 6 was pretty impressive. So we had a race car this was not necessarily a fluke, but with everything that's gone our way or hasn't gone our way this year. I don't care I will take it," again said Jeff.
"I was really disappointed at the end that I didn't get a shot at a re-start. I was going to be second. The 5 had a flat tire so I was going to have a shot to win. We haven't won in a long time. So I was tasting the victory, but that just the way it goes," said Martin Truex Jr.
"It was good the timing was perfect. I got a flat right rear tire during that whole deal. I think it must have been the next time around that I ran over some debris so my tires flat. So I was just hoping for the rain.," said Kasey Kahne.
"Jeff if you get a chance to talk to Tim Brown or George Rogers how do you think they would assess that pass? I think they would agree that in sports you try to put yourself position to be in the right place at the right time. Today we did that," added Gordon.
Gordon jumps two spots to 13th in the Sprint Cup points standings. Dale Earnhardt Jr. maintains the lead in points.
