BUTLER TOWNSHIP — Three people were killed and two others were seriously hurt in a crash early Saturday morning in Schuylkill County.
Police said the wreck happened at 2:15 a.m. on Interstate 81 north near Butler Township.
Investigators said the driver of the car Jocelyn Caron, 52, was with his wife, Mamon Simard and three other passengers, including Paul Leroy-Audy, his wife Danielle Joncas and their 17-year-old daughter when he fell asleep at the wheel.
The driver then lost control of the car that drove through a grass median and slammed against a concrete bridge support beneath Interstate 81.
Caron’s wife Mamon Simard, Danielle Joncas, and the 17-year-old passenger died at the scene.
Caron and Leroy-Audy, survived, and were rushed to the hospital. They were listed in stable condition as of Saturday evening.
Police said all the victims were from Canada.
