UNIVERSITY PARK- More than 1,000 people are expected to rally around the Penn State football team bright and early Tuesday morning to thank the Nittany Lion players who have decided to stay despite stiff NCAA sanctions.

The rally is scheduled to begin at around 6 a.m. outside the Lasch Football Building on the University Park campus.  It comes before a workout for the players at 7 a.m.  The rally was the idea of some radio DJ’s and it is now sponsored by several businesses in the State College area.  Through facebook, more than 1,000 people pledged to be there.

Newswatch 16 will have live reports from the “Rise and Rally” throughout Newswatch 16 This Morning from 5 to 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Because of the rally there are special parking provisions in place at Penn State.  These are the details released by the university:

University Police will close McKean Road at the Bigler Road intersection beginning at 5:15a.m. No vehicular traffic will be permitted into lots that are accessed via this roadway in order to prevent vehicle pedestrian conflicts. The roadway will reopen once the crowd has dispersed. Again, this is to ensure safety.

Faculty and staff who plan to attend should park in their assigned parking lot or in the Eisenhower Parking Deck.

Students are directed to park in their regularly assigned parking lot.

Visitors are directed to park in the commuter lots (Lot 44, Stadium West or Porter North), which are all located near Beaver Stadium. Blue Loop bus service is available from the bus stop on Curtin Road and on Porter Road.

The Parking Office has authorized parking in the commuter lots until 9:00a.m. without a parking permit.

Visitors may also choose to park in the East Parking Deck located north of the Berkey Creamery on Bigler Road. Please note, however, that there is a $1.00 per hour charge for this parking option.

Those choosing to walk to Holuba Hall from the commuter lots must cross University Drive at the Curtin Road intersection or the Hastings Road intersection. The Blue Loop will provide safe transportation across University Drive to Nittany Apartments, and from there only a short walk to Holuba Hall.
