WILKES-BARRE -- Planning a fancy wedding in Wilkes-Barre? Well, getting married in the diamond city may just help restore a blighted building at a busy intersection.

At the busy intersection of North and Scott Streets and Pennsylvania Avenue in Wilkes-Barre the old Penn Patio building sat vacant for many years, and became an eyesore.

Now, brand new glass has replaced broken windows, and crews inside work on a new office.

Gus Genetti and Thom Greco purchased the building, and soon people who walk past there will see something completely different.

“As you drive by, you`ll see an actual wedding setup. It will be an oyster wedding with what a wedding will look like, an upscale wedding,” said Thom Greco of Genetti’s.

Currently, the only display Genetti`s has is this half table and centerpiece inside the sales office on Market Street.

“It just shows all the things that we are putting into these weddings, all the draping the lightning, all the upscale elements just to show what a beautiful wedding you can have in this area,” said Lindsay Bezick, Genetti’s Wedding Planner.

People who live in the neighborhood said they`re glad to see a business take over the vacant building.

“We thought we would do our thing in the community and turn the building around as a gateway so when people come into Wilkes-Barre they see a positive thing,” said Greco.

Greco said the new upscale wedding show room should be finished by the end of summer.
