Power Problems In Part Of The Poconos

MIDDLE SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP -- Hundreds of homes and businesses in the Poconos are without electricity because of some strong thunderstorms Monday afternoon.

Monroe and Pike counties took the worst of the damage.

Trees are down in Middle Smithfield Township, near Marshalls Creek and when the trees came down, power lines came down with them.

To help affected residents, Middle Smithfield Township is giving out ice and water. Residents can get it at the Country Club of the Poconos clubhouse on Big Ridge Drive, in East Stroudsburg.

You must bring proof that you live in Middle Smithfield Township.

Metropolitan Edison tells us there are about 800 homes and businesses in the dark in Monroe and Pike Counties.

PPL says it has about 150 homes and businesses out in Wayne, Pike, Monroe and Luzerne counties.

The utilities have not said how long it will take to get the power back on for everyone.
