DUSHORE -- A new hotel is under construction in part of Sullivan County.
When it is finished, it will be the only hotel in that rural county.
In Dushore there is one traffic light, the only one in Sullivan County. There are a couple of banks and markets as well. Soon, Dushore will be home to a hotel. What has been a bed and breakfast along Route 220 for the past few years is turning into Hotel Harrington.
"There was a large demand for rooms. We decided to take a risk and expand," said Jerry Plastow, the owner.
Plastow and his wife hired a modular home builder from Scranton to make sections that could be pieced together. Local contractors are doing the rest.
"It's absolutely a first. It's a needed thing. The people who own this are making a big step in the improvement in this area," said Jerry Frank of Frank Construction.
"It's a small community. It is on the main road between Towanda and Williamsport which are two centers of the gas industry," added Plastow.
Whether it's guests, tourists, or workers in the natural gas industry, folks in Dushore are happy to have the Hotel Harrington on its way to be part of this community.
"Absolutely, could be wonderful for the town, what we need," said Barbara Davis of Dushore.
The new 15 room Hotel Harrington could be open as early as September.
