WILKES-BARRE — There are at least two investigations now underway in Wilkes-Barre to find out why almost 18,000 gallons of city fuel can’t be accounted for.

Both the Luzerne County D.A. and the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue are looking into the missing gas from DPW headquarters on North Pennsylvania Avenue.

Earlier this month, officials noticed the fuel was unaccounted for over a period from December, 2011 up to June, 2012.

A Wilkes-Barre city spokesperson believes the missing fuel is likely due to bad record keeping, not theft.
