DUNMORE -- One day after a report that harshly criticized Penn State for protecting Jerry Sandusky, the university's board of trustees is ready to meet at Penn State's Worthington Scranton campus.

The annual summer meeting is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. and is expected to take on a different tone, one day after the Freeh report was released.

The report harshly criticized the board and top Penn State officials and their handling of the Jerry Sandusky sex abuse case.

Because of the increased attention on the meeting, local police took extra security measures.

The meeting is open to the public, and police are preparing for possible protests from alumni or students disappointed in the board’s handling of the scandal.

Thursday, some members of the board and the university president held a news conference shortly after the Freeh report was released.

Members said they were misled by Penn State officials when the investigation into Sandusky was first called to their attention last year but said the trustees are accountable for what happened.

The board is expected to vote on some measures to improve accountability and oversight if anything like the Sandusky scandal were to happen again.

One measure expected to be voted on is a proposal to shorten term limits for board of trustee members.
