HAZLETON — Officers in Hazleton said they were exposed to what they believe was cocaine after a traffic stop Wednesday night.

Police said they pulled over Joseph Babbitt. Authorities said after finding drugs in his car they took him to their headquarters for a strip search.

Investigators said Babbitt took a bag believed to be cocaine that he was storing inside his body, and tried to eat it.

Officers said they forced the bag from his mouth and that’s when Babbitt ripped the bag, forcing a white cloud of suspected cocaine into the face of officers searching him.

Babbitt was locked up on Thursday on drug charges.
