WILKES-BARRE -- Officials in Luzerne County said one man was shot in the head in Wilkes-Barre in broad daylight on Friday afternoon.

Police said the man was shot in the middle of Jay Street and rushed to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital.

We don't know the victim's name or why the shooting happened.

Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis said county detectives and Wilkes-Barre Police continue their search for the shooter.

We spoke to a neighbor who lives nearby.

“Oh my gosh! Scared. They are saying don’t leave the house,” said Vera Carr of Wilkes-Barre.

Reporter: “Should people in this area be on high alert right now?” Deputy Chief Don Crane: “I don`t know if high alert is the right word. They should always be cautious no matter where you are.”

Authorities also say the person who shot the man is still on the loose.
