DALLAS -- The 66th Annual Back Mountain Memorial Library auction is now underway once again in Dallas with Friday night’s live bidding drawing a huge crowd out for a night of fun and chance.

With the ringing of the bell, the auction floor was open for business in the Back Mountain.

The much loved four-day event draws in crowds where folks can bid on an assortment of goods.

“It`s terrific, it`s a terrific event for the Back Mountain, Dallas, the back Mountain area and the weather`s perfect,” said Duane Kersteen of Forty Fort.

Many said after coming out to this event for so many years, it`s become a part of their summertime plans.

“This is our 23rd year coming out here, we bring chairs, all our family comes, our friends,” said Michele Kersteen of Forty Fort. “It`s like, we say Christmas is our favorite holiday, then Thanksgiving, then the auction.”

Organizers of the event said this auction is essential to the Back Moutain Library; with every dollar made going back to the library, the event keeps it running.

“It provides a lot of funding and financial support for the library and the services here,” said organizer Carol Sweeney. “Every person from a young person to a senior citizen uses the library, computers, borrowing DVD’s.”

One of the most popular events is the Childrens` Auction which runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

“We have literally over 3,000 items,” said volunteer Ron Santora. “Things from Lionel trains to Barbie Dolls, to every imaginable toy for infants to older kids.”

This year, organizers of the auction said during the event they will take a moment to honor all the volunteers who make this possible, many who have been working this for years.

“Especially those of note there are some that are 50 years plus,” said Sweeney. “It`s like one huge extended family and it`s just a wonderful feeling, it really is.”

The Back Mountain Memorial Library Auction runs through Sunday in Dallas.
