SCRANTON — Lackawanna County’s former deputy coroner was sentenced on arson charges Wednesday.

Joseph Swoboda admitted earlier this year to trying to pay off someone to set fire to a building. That person was an undercover state trooper.

Swoboda must serve six to 23 months in jail.

Authorities say he did it to collect insurance money.
