A popular park in the Poconos is reopening two of its campgrounds just in time for the summer season.
Promised Land State Park is reopening Pickerel Point and Deerfield Campgrounds after both were closed for four years for renovation work.
That means about 100 more campsites are available.
As for the renovations, the park now has new bathrooms, which is just the beginning.
"Back in the Fall of 2007, the campgrounds closed for a major renovation project," said Alex Stout of Promised Land State Park.
Thanks to a $3.3 million grant, crews not only installed new bathrooms, they also built a new laundry room, and cottages, which include furniture.
Park officials said after years of wear and tear, the park was overdue for a new look.
"The only thing we had here before were three pit latrines, and the campsites themselves," said Stout.
With days away from Friday's re-opening, crews are still working, putting together the final touches.
"We're making sure all the camp signage is up so people can find they're way. We're doing some site touch-up from the construction project that took place. We're also doing general cleanup, mowing and trimming, and just putting the final polishing touches on the campground," said Stout.
While there are many new amenities at Promised Land State Park, this is the first state park where 12 campsites have their very own sewer hookup, plus electricity and fresh running water.
As for one woman camping nearby, she can't wait to check out the new campgrounds after hearing about the area from her friend.
"Yeah, she said at Pickerel Point, you camp right on the water and that's what we like about it. We would like to stay there next time, the closer to the water, the better," said Patti Lauer of Whitehall.
Pickerel Point and Deerfield Campgrounds officially open to the public on Friday.
So far, 40 spots have been reserved.
