BELLEFONTE- Jerry Sandusky’s attorney said Saturday morning that Sandusky is on suicide watch and in protective custody at the Centre County Correctional Facility.
“I think it’s important that people understand that there is no reason to believe he needs to be on suicide watch, but it was done in an abundance of caution given the nature of the charges,” said attorney Karl Rominger.
Rominger said it is technically called “one-on-one administrative custody.” He said it is for the safety of Sandusky.
The jail released a booking photo of Sandusky after he arrived Friday night. He was taken from the Centre County Courthouse in handcuffs and sent right to the county jail where he was booked. Sandusky was convicted of 45 of the 48 child abuse charges against him.
Sandusky will likely stay in the Centre County Correctional Facility until his sentencing. That is expected to occur at some point within the next 90 days after a pre-sentencing and sex-offender evaluation is done. That has not been scheduled yet.
