SCRANTON -- Saturday was opening day for Nay Aug Pool in Scranton, and dozens of people came out to enjoy the summer season.

With the city having budget problems, it will be the only pool in Scranton that will be open this summer. Not many folks are happy with that decision.

Jumping in and cooling off is how many kids spent Saturday in Lackawanna County.

Several families came out to spend opening day at Nay Aug pool in Scranton. They said it couldn't come soon enough.

"We were anxiously waiting for it to open for a couple weeks now and the weather's beautiful,” said Marie Zaleski of Moscow.

Because of the city's budget problems, Nay Aug pool will be the only pool open this summer.

The Department of Public Works Officials hired 100 fewer lifeguards too. This leaves the city with a good chunk of money.

Some folks understand, others just don't like it.

"Because of all the money problems, it costs a lot of money to run these pools," said Zaleski.

"I think it's kind of sad for the other kids that can't get here," said Gina Barton of Scranton.

Officials said they are gearing up for a very busy summer, busier than ever before.

They'll have police security ready at the pool during open hours, and if the pool is packed to capacity people will have to wait outside.

"It's just ridiculous for everyone to come and amass here, when some of us don't even have cars. I have a stroller and I walk everywhere, so it's hard,” said Felix Ramirez of Scranton.
