Wyoming Seminary Wrestling Camp
Wyoming Seminary head wrestling coach Scott Green is holding his second annual futures wrestling camp in Kingston. Boy’s age 10 to 17 are here for one week of instruction. Learning from some of the best college coaches in the country.
“It is great we are preaching to the kids the accessibility of our wrestling stars. Guys that are going to be at the highest level-the level that they want to be at and how accessible they are to young wrestlers. Their ability to learn from and interact is unique to our sport we are very fortunate,” said Scott Green.
Day one of the camp 1984 Olympic champion Jeff Blatnick was on hand. Day two All-American wrestler Nick Gwiazdowski grabbed the kids attention. Gwiazdowski finished 8th in the country in Division I this past year at Binghamton University and just received his NCAA release to go wrestle with former coach Pat Popolizio at North Carolina State.
“The way I look at it if they can get one move out of here it was a win , so if they pick up not even a whole move just portions of the move and there is a match oh! I got to get my head up here or I got to cut my hips this way then they learn something,” said Nick Gwiazdowski.
“It is really good. You learn a lot of moves and everything. You get a lot of live wrestling in too. It’s a good refresher before wrestling season,” said Steven Newell.
“It is really nice. It’s a great opportunity to learn from Division I champions, National champions, guys who can teach us a lot of new stuff,” said Michael Doggett.
We’ll Nick’s motivation to wrestle at NC State and become an All-American goes all the way back to his days of wrestling in camps in up state New York just like this one here at Wyoming Seminary, and getting instruction from guys like Cael Sanderson now the head coach at Penn State and the two-time national team champions.
“A lot of it became right where these kids are where my wrestling club my wrestling coach had a lot of legends of the sport like John Smith, Cael Sanderson came into the club. When you see what those guys did you see guys that they’ve done it. They weren’t born that way they had to work to get to school just work. You can definitely catch people. So that’s how I did it just hard work and keep my eye on the goal,” again said Nick.
