The Honesdale Borough pool is celebrating its grand opening in style.
The style is a newer look, thanks to many volunteers who donated their time this spring to make sure the pool opened for the season.
Honesdale officials almost closed the pool for the season because they didn't have enough money to fix the pool which was having maintenance problems after years of use.
Volunteers and local business owners donated their time and supplies to not only make the repairs but also to upgrade its facilities.
"We have completely redone everything of the pool. The community came together. Over one hundred donors. Redid all the tile work, the bottom of the pool, the pump house is all new, all new paint, everything is brand new," said Martha Curtis, the pool manager.
According to lifeguards, one of the best new parts of the pool renovation project is the baby pool. Specifically the new gate, preventing the little ones from going into the big pool.
Families and local day camps didn`t let a cloudy day stop them from enjoying the grand opening of their community pool.
"It`s very big, I get to swim around!" said Sadie Nahman of Waymart.
"We all had fun swimming last year, but now it`s all new and it`s a lot cleaner than last year!" said Dana Pratt of Honesdale.
""We`re overjoyed. We`ve been waiting and waiting and waiting to see if it was going to open because we`re here like every day," said Greg Tagle, from Honesdale.
With a pool looking like new. Could you blame him?
