State Police in Lehighton are investigating a case of criminal homicide in the Poconos.

It happened Tuesday night around 11 p.m. at a home in Polk Township outside of Effort in Monroe County.

Investigators said Christopher Strachn, 21, admitted he choked and stabbed his mother, Adrienne Strachn, 53, in their home.

When police arrived at the scene they found Adrienne Strachn inside the home. The Monroe County coroner said she was dead.

Christopher Strachn of Kresgeville is charged with criminal homicide.

Police said he admitted not only how he did it, but that he had been thinking about committing the gruesome act for a while.

When neighbors heard the news, some couldn't control their emotions.

“She was just a beautiful person, she would give you anything. She's just a sweetheart, she's just an amazing person. If she didn't know you, and she see you needed help, she'd be there. I don't have words right now. I'm just in shock,” said Sharon Baryk of Polk Township.

Christopher Strachn is locked up in the Monroe County Prison.
