A restaurant in Shickshinny that took on four feet of water during the September floods re-opened Monday.

Kim Miller prepared sandwichs in the kitchen of the newly reopened Wagon Wheel. Miller is the co-owner of the restaurant in downtown Shickshinny that was hit hard by last September's flooding.

A marker on the outside of the restaurant shows how high the flood waters reached.

"There was so much devastation to the community and we really felt that every community ought to have a family restaurant," said Miller.  It's a place where the old guys come in and congregate and talk."

Ruth and John Fetterolf of Danville heard about the grand reopening of theWagon Wheel and decided to celebrate their 58th wedding anniversary with a lunch stop in Shickshinny.

"My husband said 'I think we outta support them.' They worked hard to set up this little restaurant and get back in business and here we are," said Ruth Fetterolf.

"We really like it. It's the first we have ever been here. It's nice. It's a perfect location," said John Fetterolf. "We'll come back. We'll really come back,"

The owners say they weren't able to salvage much but they were able to save the pine walls by removing each plank one by one. They took them outside and power washed them and put them all back.

The entire back wall of the Wagon Wheel serves as a reminder of the past floods of Shickshinny, not only from Tropical Storm Lee, but also from the remnants of Agnes, 40 years ago this month.

"What does this mean for the spirit of the community to have this place reopened? It means a lot. They can come together. It just shows we can build things back up together," said Aleesha Hildebrand of Shickshinny.
