The tourism industry in the Poconos is mourning the loss of a man considered to be an icon and champion for the Pocono Mountains.
The former Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau president, Ron Logan, died Monday.
"Ron Logan was one of those true icons of the tourism industry here in the Pocono Mountains," said Carl Wilgus, current president and CEO of the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau.
For about 50 years, Logan was part of the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau. Tourism officials credit him with giving the Pocono Mountains a country image rather than a commercial one.
He also managed several resorts, eventually owning The French Manor Inn and Spa and The Sterling Inn, both in Wayne County.
On Monday 77-year-old Logan died from a blood condition formally known as per-leukemia.
"He was always very professional, very empathetic and always very much of a gentlemanly with the customers, people he worked with, the vendors. Just a delightful person all around," said Wilgus.
He worked with Logan for four years and was with the tourism icon in 2009 when Logan received the Lifetime Achievement Award for all his work at the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau.
"If there was anything achieved, having the opportunity to be associated with a wonderful, wonderful group of people," said Logan in his acceptance speech in 2009.
"It was a very moving moment. He did leave a lasting memory in everyone's minds," said Wilgus.
"It was my special achievement to be part of this group. Thank you very much," said Logan in 2009.
Funeral arrangements for Logan are being kept private at the request of the family.
