This is the day set aside to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and many Memorial Day ceremonies were held all over our viewing area.
Veronica Lukoskie spent her Memorial Day the same way she does every year, by putting flowers at her husband's grave site near Sunbury.
"My husband was buried right across here and he was in Korea. I still choke up," Lukoskie said.
This year, Veronica and others watched their loved ones honored at a ceremony at Northumberland Memorial Park Cemetery near Sunbury.
Four World War II and Korean War historic vehicles led a procession down Route 61 in Northumberland County to honor America's heroes.
"All the vets. Not just the ones that are buried here, the ones that are living and the ones that are buried at cemeteries throughout the area," said Jim Radel, Commander.
There are close to 4,000 veterans buried at the cemetery in Northumberland County. Some of their loved ones tell Newswatch 16 it is ceremonies like this that honor the service they gave to our country.
"It means a lot to me. I have a son that's active duty in the U.S. Army," said Mary Williard of Sunbury.
"It's great to see that we're still remembered. Nobody has forgotten us, some of us guys are still around yet," said Army veteran Robert Wendt.
"I think that's very nice for everybody to take their time, their special holiday with their familie and the veterans, they've already paid their dues," Lukoskie said.
