Memorial Day is when we honor America's men and women who served.

It is also the unofficial kickoff to summer and that means the busy season has arrived at Lake Wallenpaupack.

With temperatures well into 80s Monday, many folks hit the water.

The boating season is here and boaters said it is off to a great, hot start.

"I love it. You work hard all week long, you just want to hit the lake and enjoy it. It's nice you know," said Mark Lucci of Scranton.

He and Amanda Ingler are putting in the boat, taking advantage of all the heat and sunshine on this holiday.

"I'm actually in the restaurant business so I worked all day Saturday and got all the vacationers and now it's time for me to get out there and have some fun. It's really nice," Ingler said.

"I am just so thrilled that summer started.  We're getting some beautiful weather this weekend," said Charlotte Ewasko of New Jersey. She comes to the lake every weekend from. A lot of people will come from all over for the next three months.

This time Ewasko brought some happy children along.

"It's really fun. We don't get to do it much. We only get to see Aunt Charlotte a few times a year. It's just amazing to be up here. It's so much fun," said Brad Vreeland of New Jersey.

While some are regulars at the Paupack, Jack Kimock is a newcomer from the Lehigh Valley.

"First time.  Well first time in a long time," Kimock said. "Love it. I'll definitely be back."

From four-legged friends to the youngest of kids, everyone on the water seemed to be enjoying it all.

While on the waves, many are remembering why they have this day off.

"I just want to thank our men and women in uniform who gave us this opportunity to enjoy our freedom," Lucci added.

Memorial Day, a day to remember and get summer started on the water.
