State police in Carbon County said a husband and wife are dead in an apparent murder suicide.
Investigators said the bodies of the couple were discovered Saturday morning in Nesquehoning by their two young children.
Crime scene taped blocked off a section of Railroad Street in Nesquehoning as state police said the bodies of a husband and wife were found inside a home.
Investigators said Christopher Lewis, 33, shot his wife, Dana, 31, before taking his own life.
“Right now we're contacting family and friends and co-workers but everything indicates it's going to be a murder suicide,” said Lt. Robert Bartal with the Pennsylvania State Police.
“She was beautiful, she was beautiful on the inside, she was beautiful on the outside. Her smile could light up a room. She was so witty. She was so fun," said friend Branddi Muth.
State police said they were called to the house around 9 a.m. after the bodies were found.
Friends of the couple said their two young children made the discovery.
“They both went up together. They went up after each other and then they saw them,” said one neighbor.
“For their youngest kids to find them this morning, that’s terrible,” said neighbor Jason Branch.
Friends said Dana Lewis has two other children who were not at the house at the time of the shooting.
Friends said all four children are now with family members.
“Four kids that are going to grow up without a mom, or a stepmom or a dad or stepdad. They had a blended family,” said Muth.
“She got along with everybody. I guess they had their problems just like everybody else,” said Branch.
Muth said she and Dana had plans for the holiday weekend.
“Supposed to get our nails done and go get hair done and Monday we're supposed to have a Memorial Day cookout,” said Muth.
