On this Memorial Day weekend, we remember all those who fought for our country, and honor all those who continue the fight today.

In Lackawanna County, several young baseball players did just that in Moscow.

More than 50 children planted American flags at a cemetery to keep the memory alive of our fallen service men and women.

With a smile and a little elbow grease, two young girls from the Moscow American Legion baseball team helped honor the many men and women who fought for our country, and lost the ultimate battle.

Fellow teammates said it's because of our troops both past and present that they are able to do what they love today.

“It's just a way to give back to the community to give back to the veterans. Without them we wouldn't be able to play baseball today, so it's a good way to give back,” said Joey Runco of Moscow.

More than 50 players with the Moscow team came out to the cemetery at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Parish in Moscow.

One by one, they set up flags at each and every grave to remember the service men and women who gave their lives.

“People don't do enough for them, so it's good to get out, come over here, set the flags down on the graves. It's a good cause for everybody,” said Chris Gaetano of Moscow.

The older children helped out the younger kids with the flags, and getting them into the grass.

They said the lesson they're all learning is priceless.

“Now that we're older, we know what's going on, and we're just not going through the motions. We know what it's for. Growing up helps us realize how they fought for our freedom,” said Billy Nelson of Moscow.

“I think it's great for the kids to start this early, understand what it is to be a veteran and help our troops. We support them 100 percent,” said Tony Gaetano of Moscow American Legion Baseball.

The Moscow American Legion baseball team has been setting up flags for our troops for about 20 years.
